![]() ![]() For a one-year-old, she is already such a smart, cute, funny, fiery and feisty little girl. Nova is seriously the sweetest and most precious kid we know, and I know I may be biased because I'm her big sister, but those who have met her have nothing but positive things to say about her. As well as be able to afford to the basics keep our family who will be left in Canada comfortable, and have the extra money in case of emergencies. Going on this medical trip will not be easy as our passports, meals and drinks for the second parent, gas for travelling in and around the city, and extracurriculars will not be funded and will be coming out of our own pockets. We will be leaving the other 8 children at home with our Nana and our dearest friend Connie. ![]() Seeing as we only have funding for Nova and one parent, we are asking for financial help to not only fund our second parent but to support the kids who have no choice but to stay home as well. Travelling to Washington will not be easy, especially with the extra stress from COVID-19 and worrying about vaccines, but we know we have to do it for Nova's sake. Our mother has always been a stay-at-home mom and our father is off work due to his own medical reasons. Nova is the youngest of 9 children and as a family of 11, you can probably imagine our shock when we found out the baby of the family has a problem this severe and will be a struggle for the rest of her life. Not only will they be travelling for the two weeks in September, but they will have to be travelling back and forth, crossing borders, and worrying about finance for these trips, for the next 18-21 years of her life. Nova and our parents are now travelling on the 6th-17th of September to a hospital in Spokane, Washington where they will provide her with better treatment and medical care for her back. This brace is incredibly uncomfortable for her and is made out of a hard plastic she needs to wear for 23 hours of the day. After that, we had to make several trips to Calgary as we live in Medicine Hat and get a brace made for her. We took her to the pediatrician a few days after her 1st birthday for tests, x-rays, etc, to find out that this little girl has a 52-degree curve in her spine. Until later in the year when we noticed it had gotten worse. However, we thought nothing of it, brushing it off and thinking she was spending too much time in her car seat. It was first noticed in the summer months of 2020 by our Nana when she pointed out she would tend to sit crooked. Nova is a beautiful one-year-old little girl, who in February of 2021 was diagnosed with Scoliosis.
